I first noticed the flames last night around 7pm when I was driving home from LA on the 101 passing Sea Cliff. At first, from my perspective it looked as if La Conchita was a blaze. Shortly there after it was apparent that Montecito was fully engulfed in a fiery orange blaze. Two major fires in less then six months is too much for me.....

On Nov. 19, Gucci’s Frida Giannini and Rihanna are brightening New York. As part of Gucci’s ongoing partnership with UNICEF, the two will light the UNICEF snowflake on Fifth Avenue at 57th Street. The festivities, at Grand Army Plaza, will feature a special performance by Ne-Yo, followed by a party at the Gucci flagship that Giannini and Rihanna are hosting to fete the Tattoo Heart Collection and the 2008 campaign, featuring Rihanna. After the party, Giannini will head over to the Oak Room for a small VIP dinner for the singer, marking the first event there after the Plaza’s renovation. Gucci has tapped Timbaland to spin the tunes after dinner.

At the polls yesterday, the ballot was dispensed with a special notice that School Board Candidate Kate Smith had been disqualified because she had moved out of the School Board's jurisdiction. Despite the caveat, Smith garnered more than 13,000 votes—nearly 3 percent more than Jaqueline Inda. Smith appeared in front of the Santa Barbara Museum of Art this afternoon to protest her ejection from the race, and to sing a very heartfelt rendition of "God Bless America" for passersby. "I ran for the Santa Barbara School Board to expose corruption in our schools!" she shouted, catching the attention of a couple of people who stopped for a couple of minutes to listen politely. "I was disqualified illegally, and they cannot violate the peoples' rights with impunity!"
